A report complied by the UK-based Catlin Arctic Survey and the World Wildlife Fund released research about ice thickness in the Arctic today. UK explorer Pen Hadow lead the expedition team who manually drilled into ice. They found in the area near the Beaufort Sea first year ice instead of oder thicker ice. The report also stated the ice-floes were on average of 1.8 metters thick, which is way to thin. http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/10/15/climate.arctic.sea.ice.melt/index.html
