World Event #46
A Canadian folk singer named Taylor Mitchell was at the Skyline Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Paker, where she was killed by coyotes. She was attacked and able to call 911, then died at the hospital. The coyote that attacked was shot and the park is closed. The British Navy found a missing couple's unoccupied yacht in the Indian Ocean. The couple was said to have left Seychelles for Tranania on October 21. In Puerto Rico a massive fire burned at a fuel storage complex. At the Caribbean Petroleum Corp. eleven fuel tanks burned while firefighters were trying to cool off the remaining 29 to keep more from burning. All educational institutions in Pakistan are closed till the end of the week due to the twin suicide bombings at Islamabad's International Islamic University. 29 are wounded and 6 have died. A 92 year old woman in a wheelchair, flying from Brazil to Spain was arrested for having 4.3 kilos of cocaine strapped to her body. In Pallipat, India a fireworks store on fire killed 32 people. The shoppers were purchasing fireworks for the major Hindu festival Diwali. Three people have been arrested in connection with fire, including the owner of building. In Islambad, Pakistan the army chief briefed on the security situation the government is fighting them against the Taliban militants and their attacks. The army chief Gen. Ashfaq Kayani addressed the leaders of Pakistan's political parties and did not say if a decision was to be made today about the start date of the ground offensive in South Waziristan, part of Pakistan's lawless tribal region. World Event #32

A report complied by the UK-based Catlin Arctic Survey and the World Wildlife Fund released research about ice thickness in the Arctic today. UK explorer Pen Hadow lead the expedition team who manually drilled into ice. They found in the area near the Beaufort Sea first year ice instead of oder thicker ice. Today the French military fought off a pirate attack on two fishing boats. It took place off the coast of Africa and the pirates pulled back after the military fired warning shots at them. Today an Irish priest, Father Michael Sinnott, was unfortunately kidnapped. The kidnapping occurred around 7:30pm when the priest was taking a walk in the garden outside his home in the Philippines. In Brazil a drug dealer who was a former Brazilian state legislator and TV host surrendered to police today. The man's name is Wallace Souza and was expelled from the state congress last week and charged with a number of crimes. He was missing since Monday and was arrested in the city of Manaus in Amazonas.

13 people were killed and wounded 60 in a suicide car bomb attack by the Indian Embassy. The Taliban said they were responsible for the bomb that went off at 8:30am, damaging a security checkpoint near by. In Kampala, Uganda one of the most wanted men being accused for participating in the genocides, that consisted of Hutu Militias and people being taken out by Tutsis and moderate Hutus, was arrested. It is estimated that 1 million deaths took place in this 100 day killing activity. Nizeyimana will be tried by the tribunal in Arusha, Tanzania after being transferred to the U.N. detentions facility.

A riot at one of the holiest places in Jerusalem took place today. The location is know to Jews as the Temple Mount and to Muslims as Haram Al-Sharif, a location where police tried to contain people and arrested Palestinian youths. For the traditional priestly blessing on the holiday of Sukkot 30, 000 Jews arrived at the Western Wall today and 150 Palestinians rioted, throwing rocks at police forces. The International Atomic Energy Agency announced that on October 25, 2009 the United Nations Inspectors will visit Iran's disclosed nuclear power plant. Iran claims that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes after Tehran wrote a letter to the IAEA revealing a nuclear enrichment plant located by Qom. On October 19 at IAEA Iran will meet with the U.S. and Russia, and France to discuss requests and regulations.

World Event #19
In Rome Italy the government declared a state of emergency for Messina and the surrounding areas after a mudslide killed 14 people. The down pour of rain started on Thursday afternoon, causing flooding and for railway tracks and roads to be blocked off. Many people are missing, 40 were injured, and others left without a home.
