In Madrid, Spain a court convicted 11 Islamic militants for bring members of a terrorist group. They were apprehended for conspiring to attack Barcelona's metro. The judge declared that the plot was not advanced enough to constitute crime of conspiracy.

In the Philippines, a government convoy got ambushed by gunmen in the same province where 57 people were massacred. In Baghdad, Iraq a bomb was set off in a trash can on a busy street. 7 people were injured and two killed. In tow other minibus bombings, the blasts were more extreme and killed 5 five people. This is all happening after the back to back suicide bombings.

Today in Venezuela, 21 activists students ended an 18 day hunger strike over the government's political prisoners. The students think that Venezuela's government persecutes people for political beliefs. When international delegations arrived the strike ended.

In Baghdad, Iraq the Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki passed a new law that holds elections based on the U.S withdrawing troops. It is unclear if when the election for a new parliament will take place. The UN encouraged the elections to be held on February 27, 2010. In Moscow, Russia, 5 people were detained for being involved in a huge fire in a nightclub. 109 people died and 130 injured after a performer at the club juggled cold-flame pyrotechnical maces, causing the fire.

In England, 37 year old Solange Magnano died today from complications in her plastic surgery. She was former Miss Argentina and was under going an elective surgery on her buttocks last week. Injecting fat or silicone is said to possibly lead to a block of blood supply to the lungs, raising even more questions about the risk of cosmetic surgeries.

Britain has decided to send in 500 troops to Afghanistan in December. The total of UK's soldiers will be 9,500. The addition was made to stop Afghanistan from becoming Al Qaeda safe. The UK is the second nation to have the most troops in Afghanistan.
